Hey All,
I just finished rebuilding the front suspension on the Blower Truck ran into a "Little" problem at the very end.

The truck is a 72 C10 power steering,brakes etc.
Now the problem, the inner tie rod I have which was purchased for onother project truck was I believe ordered for a 71-72 C10 PS,PB but the diameter of the stud is .580 and the drag link is .480 meaning the new rod won't freakin fit.

The inner rod is the smaller diameter stud as is the drag link, both inner/outer mounting points are the small dia.

So I call my Nephew he runs a local parts store and give him all the pertinent info on the truck he says yeah got em in stock so I go to pick them up they are the bigger stud also so what the hell, is the drag link off a different year truck the mounting holes are the same size.

I am not to good at explaining my thoughts written down so if anyone gets the drift of this problem Help!!!

Thanks in advance

i ran in to the same problem with my 64 1/2 ton. i ordered inner and outer tie rods ends
and they wouldn't fit the old center shaft, i wound up geting the center shaft for a 72 1/2 ton to make it work.

hope this helps.

Tell me are the holes in the 72 drag link the same for the inner and outer rods?

yes they are the same diameter. your best bet would be to take inner and outer tie rod ends and adjuster sleeves to your local parts house and mach up what you need.

or check out these links'

They should be able to check the sizes and get you the right part. Most parts stores have the tools to look that up, but they don't all have someone with the ablility.

Well my nephew has the ability but the computer gives him the Moog # and it is the bigger dia stud.
64longstep says that the 72 center link has the same "small" size holes for inner/outer rods as does mine so why does Moog give you a Part# that is the big dia.

What I mean is to look up the part by size, not application. It usually takes a paper catalog. Did you get a ES403L. That's what F-M and autozone websites show. 73-86 shows ES409LT, but the on-line catalogs don't give the specs. That's where the paper catalogs come in.

Thanks Fred T

Yup they are the right #'s called the nephew and gave him the numbers he screwed up and was ordering for a 3/4 ton truck (operator error).

This is what is so great about this site quick responses and excellent info!!!

I love it when a plan comes together. Especially when it was someone else's fault. :PDT_jok:
