View Full Version : Just full of stupid questions tonight... What do we do about traction again?

Or rather, lack of it? I still haven't gotten tired of being able to light my tires up at will :checker: , but I think someday I may actually want better traction. I've got the trailing arm rear suspension, with (manual) airbags and Early Classic shocks and shock relocation brackets. I will be adding a hard bed cover soon, which will give me a little more weight in the rear, and may relocate my battery even further aft, but I'm still looking for suggestions. Less power isn't an option, either. :D Bigger tires than my 31 X 18.5 Hoosier pro streets may be an option, but I really haven't looked yet.

What works for the high torque gang around here?

I promise when it stops raining, I'll be quieter.

Duh, on my part... hadn't really considered that ballast is a valid option yet - seems like it's very working for you. 9 what?!? Feeling pretty well humbled now. What rear axle and ratio do you have in that beast?

:bluechevy I do believe that is part of weight transfer. That is SO SWEET!!!!!! Which has alot to do with front shock spring combo. And when it is all right it feels so GOOD!

throw a camper in the back, or instead of wood floor in your baox, make your floor out of lead

I met a guy the other day that does all kinds of custom rod stuff. He mostly works on race cars, but he told me he can back half my brothers 80 SWB and fab up a four link and ladder bars for $1500 plus materials. He also said he would do it for less if my brother helps him, he actually wants to teach us how to do it for our selves. He is also going to narrow a nine inch for us for verry cheap. But to get to the point, he was telling me the absolute best way to get traction was ladder bars, a four link, 454 springs with a coil or two cut out and some adjustable shocks to make the front end come up and transfer more weight to the rear, and if you still need more, then a bar filled with a little lead about 10 inches behind the pumpkin. Light 'em up.
